Political Fantasy Book Cover Illustration for Independent Publishing
This fantasy book cover illustration was commissioned for author Chelsea Harper and created to visually translate a complex fictional world into a compelling narrative image. From the first concept, I worked closely with the author to transform her political fantasy setting into a cover that communicates tension, power, and secrecy. The illustration reflects the core themes of intrigue and manipulation that drive the story forward.
Translating Story and Power Dynamics into Visual Design
The scene focuses on three characters placed within a stone interior that suggests authority and confinement. Each pose reinforces the political fantasy book cover illustration concept through visual hierarchy. One figure controls information, another observes events unfold, while the third remains hidden yet alert. As a result, the composition guides the viewer through layered power relationships without revealing explicit plot elements.
Commissioned Artwork for a Fantasy Author
This cover was created as a custom commission and is not available for sale. I supported Chelsea Harper throughout the design process, ensuring the illustration aligned with her narrative vision. Together, we refined character roles, mood, and symbolism to accurately represent the political tension at the heart of her fantasy novel. The final artwork balances atmosphere with clarity, which is essential for independent publishing.
Designed for Self-Publishing Platforms
The illustration was developed with self-publishing standards in mind. It adapts effectively for KDP, IngramSpark, Barnes and Noble Press, and BookVault formats. Therefore, the design remains readable at thumbnail size while maintaining visual depth in print. Indie authors can explore similar commissioned works in my portfolio.
